1. Evaluate Damage on the Ground Level

We look at the ground level before taking a ladder and going up your roof.

We look for “collateral damage” around your house because if there is damage in other areas, there will be damage to your roof.

List of Collateral Damage on the Ground Level:

Dents in downspouts due to hail strikes
Holes in your window screens
Siding presenting dents, dings, or other signs of impact
Strikes in your mailbox
Shingles on the ground
Shingle granules on the ground

So, when there is collateral damage, there is a high chance that your roof above has suffered damage.

2. Moving Up to Inspect the Rooftop

Now, we’ll take a ladder and inspect your roof. Of course, we can do our hail damage roof inspection before or after the winter season.

So, now that we are up, we’ll take a look at your gutters.

No doubt, your shingles are the most essential part of your roof. They are the ones that divert rainwater from the rooftop directly to the gutters.

In an orderly way, we go ahead and take a look at the shingles row by row.

And we mark those shingles that are missing, lifted, or wrinkled.

Also, we identify shingles with dents, strikes, or damage due to hailstones continuously hitting your roof.

Another severe sign that your roof is too old or damaged and unable to withstand harsh weather is shingle granule loss.

We warn homeowners about all these signs since they need to fix them ASAP.

Some other roof issues are a telltale that your roof needs replacement.

To mark hail damage on roof shingles, we use chalk. For hail strikes on shingles, we circle the dents and dings on the impacted areas. Then, we take pictures to prove your roof damage from hailstorms.

5. Inspecting Your Roof Flashing

The flashing is a slab of sheet metal covering a roof’s overlapping areas.

When there is a gap or a problem with the flashing, it causes troublesome roof leaks.

Identifying dents and dings in this piece of metal means that hailstones were so substantial that they could damage the metal.

In other words, other non-metallic areas of your roof will also be affected.
