Asphalt shingles are the most common type of roof material because they look great and don’t cost as much as others; they also provide excellent protection.
Thus, today, we bring our hail damage roof inspection guide so that you understand our process of spotting problems in your roof and fixing them to be on top of its maintenance.
We look at the ground level before taking a ladder and going up your roof.
We look for “collateral damage” around your house because if there is damage in other areas, there will be damage to your roof.
So, when there is collateral damage, there is a high chance that your roof above has suffered damage.
Now, we’ll take a ladder and inspect your roof. Of course, we can do our hail damage roof inspection before or after the winter season.
This step is for two obvious reasons: 1) Safety & 2) Snow obstacle inspections.
So, now that we are up, we’ll take a look at your gutters.
The gutters are probably the first thing we’ll see after getting to your roof. So, we begin inspecting here.
First, we see if your gutter has suffered any physical damage.
Hailstones can wreak havoc because they come down with impressive acceleration thanks to their weight and gravity.
So, when hailstones crash onto your gutter (if it’s not metallic), they cause dents and holes.
If the gutter doesn’t show any signs of damage, we look inside the gutter for shingle granules.
If your roof is showing granule loss, the integrity of your shingles has been compromised.
Granule loss is a sign you need an asphalt roof replacement.
No doubt, your shingles are the most essential part of your roof. They are the ones that divert rainwater from the rooftop directly to the gutters.
So, a necessary step in our hail damage inspection guide is to examine every shingle closely.
In an orderly way, we go ahead and take a look at the shingles row by row.
And we mark those shingles that are missing, lifted, or wrinkled.
Also, we identify shingles with dents, strikes, or damage due to hailstones continuously hitting your roof.
Another severe sign that your roof is too old or damaged and unable to withstand harsh weather is shingle granule loss.
We warn homeowners about all these signs since they need to fix them ASAP.
Some other roof issues are a telltale that your roof needs replacement.
To mark hail damage on roof shingles, we use chalk. For hail strikes on shingles, we circle the dents and dings on the impacted areas. Then, we take pictures to prove your roof damage from hailstorms.
The flashing is a slab of sheet metal covering a roof’s overlapping areas.
When there is a gap or a problem with the flashing, it causes troublesome roof leaks.
Identifying dents and dings in this piece of metal means that hailstones were so substantial that they could damage the metal.
In other words, other non-metallic areas of your roof will also be affected.
Since hailstorms commonly cause roof damage, you should be on top of your roof inspection.
Brothers Construction III Corp can inspect your roof to evaluate whether you need a repair or replacement.
With years of experience, we have the skills, knowledge & workforce to repair or replace your roof efficiently and effectively.
Also, remember that a simple roof inspection can prevent the evolution of minor roof deficiencies into significant leakage problems.
So, it’s better and cheaper to keep inspecting than to replace a roof.
